Is GTA 6 coming to PC? Yes, absolutely. It is being developed in silence alongside the console versions from the very beginning. Rockstar, however, will stay silent about the GTA 6 PC release date for a long while.
You can expect the official PC announcement starting from 6 months to a year after the initial console release (November 19, 2026), when a large chunk of console gamers have already bought and played the game.
GTA 6 on PC is likely to arrive in Fall 2027. Why? Let’s break down the logic and numbers.
Why Rockstar delays GTA 6 PC release
It’s mostly marketing, hype generation, profit maximization, and technical complexities.
Shipping on consoles first and on PC around a year later, many gamers will buy GTA 6 twice or even thrice when it inevitably releases on future-gen consoles. Ideally, Rockstar expects you to purchase GTA 6 three times: on PS5, PC, and PS6, for example.
- Releasing GTA 6 on all platforms at once would minimize sales by making you choose which platform you prefer the most and stick to it.
- Consoles are cheaper and more accessible (plug-and-play, lower entry barrier) for casual gamers, leading to higher sales than on PC.
- Consoles are technically simpler. PC optimization, with customizable graphics and control settings for endless hardware configurations, takes WAY longer than a fixed console setup.
Hype generation
Let the PC players sign petitions, roll their eyes, be jealous, be busy waiting, and have endless discussions while watching GTA 6 gameplay on YouTube.
Such buzz and hype are good for marketing. PC gamers will instantly forget about “being overlooked again” when the GTA 6 PC release date is officially announced, as they always do.
A blast from the past
Do you even remember that we had a petition for GTA 5 on PC? It was kind of a big deal 11 years ago, with 724,244 signatures. Now, it’s just nostalgia.
Maybe we’ll repeat the signature collection for GTA 6 on PC. Only this time, it will be even more futile, since GTA 6 has always been coming to PC from the very beginning.
When is GTA 6 coming to PC?
If we follow the ~12–20 month console-to-PC gap typical for Rockstar, that suggests a PC release sometime between November 2027 and July 2028.
Also, Rockstar has a strong pattern of launching major titles on Tuesdays.
GTA 6 PC release date prediction
The math indicates (see the tables below) that the GTA 6 PC release date should be in Fall 2027. The best-case scenario is Spring 2027, but there is no real incentive not to give console gamers a year of exclusivity. It will only increase the PC crowd’s hype.
Rockstar’s historical console-to-PC release timeline
It has always been the case with GTA releases. Take a look.
GTA release date schedule by platform
| Game title | Console release date | PC release date | Console-to-PC delay |
|---|---|---|---|
| GTA 3 | October 22, 2001 | May 21, 2002 | ~7 months |
| GTA Vice City | October 29, 2002 | May 13, 2003 | ~6 months |
| GTA San Andreas | October 26, 2004 | June 7, 2005 | ~8 months |
| GTA 4 | April 29, 2008 | December 2, 2008 | ~7 months |
| GTA 5 | September 17, 2013 | April 14, 2015 | ~19 months |
Rockstar Games has always followed a clear pattern of releasing PC versions months after console launches.
NOTE: The GTA 5 console-to-PC delay is the longest, solely because there was a PS4/Xbox One release in between. Rockstar had two generational console releases (PS4/Xbox One in 2014) before the PC release.
With GTA 6, this won’t be the case, and we can expect GTA 6 on PC to release within a year after the PS5/Xbox One X/S release.
What about Red Dead?
The newest original Rockstar title, Red Dead Redemption 2, also follows the same pattern. Almost exactly one year for the PC version to release.
| Game title | Console release date | PC release date | Console-to-PC delay |
|---|---|---|---|
| Red Dead Redemption 2 | October 26, 2018 | November 5, 2019 | ~1 year |
Why GTA 6 on PC is inevitable
Overall, the PC gaming market is growing steadily and accounts for roughly half of the non-mobile gaming market.
- The gaming industry is moving away from exclusivity. Even Halo is finally coming to PlayStation.
- PC market share is simply too big not to capitalize on. Steam growth alone is massive as well.
- Cross-platform gaming is here to stay. Consoles and PCs can play together now.
- PC has, by far, the sturdiest longevity due to the massive modding community.
Have you seen Fusion FIX for GTA4, which finally fixes Rockstar’s flaws, and the path tracing mod that makes it look like a present-day title? All that 17 years after release, while the original console versions of GTA 4 are more or less forgotten. The longevity of PC is simply astonishing.
PC is just too big to overlook.

PC hardware & optimization insights
The current-gen console architecture is the most similar to PC it has ever been. It’s now easier to develop console and PC versions in parallel.
The infamous 512 MB RAM on PS3 and Xbox 360 was a severe limitation with no equivalent today. It is simply astonishing that Rockstar managed to develop GTA 5 the way they did, without cutting parts of the game and releasing them for the more capable hardware.
GTA 6 PC system requirements (estimates)
Ray-traced global illumination (RTGI) and ray-traced (RT) reflections might be the default (core) lighting solution, not an optional feature, according to Digital Foundry. In turn, it would require hardware capable of RT.
Also, 60 fps on base consoles is seemingly unlikely. Such facts give us some estimates about the minimum GTA 6 PC system requirements. Next-gen consoles (like PS6) releasing in a couple of years will definitely target 60 fps.
Based on the arguments above, we can estimate the minimum GTA 6 PC requirements.
Minimum GTA 6 PC requirements
- OS: Windows 11
- GPU: Nvidia RTX 2060 or AMD RX 6600 XT
- RAM: 16 GB
- CPU: Intel Core i5-8400 or AMD Ryzen 5 2600
NOTE: Keep in mind that Rockstar is building a game that should last for at least a decade. Only PlayStation 6 and the future Xbox will show their true potential on consoles.

Final thoughts on GTA 6 coming to PC
And yet, none of this is concrete evidence, as Rockstar production patterns and schedules can just change at any time. With GTA 6 being by far the most complex and expensive title, it could take more time than ever before.
One thing is certain: GTA 6 is inevitably coming to PC, but always later rather than sooner.
Last but not least, November 2026 is not set in stone either. And yet, after the second delay, we remain hopeful.
Meanwhile, if you are keen to play GTA 5 before GTA 6 for the very first or maybe the last time, you can skip the grind with GTA 5 accounts on Eldorado.gg.
