Here’s the catch: every evolution caps a card’s rating and pace, so strong cards don’t qualify. In addition, each one expires, so the order you pick them in matters.

What are evolutions in FC 27?
With evolutions, you can upgrade a player card you already own. Each evolution makes your player faster, sharper, or stronger, adds a PlayStyle (a special trait, like Tiki Taka for passing), or gives a new role.
However, every evolution has requirements. The game caps the card’s overall rating (OVR), its pace, and its PlayStyles, and they limit its position. Therefore, strong cards usually don’t qualify, it’s just the low-rated ones.
In addition, FC 27 uses three formats:
- Training Camp: a timer runs the upgrade, usually for one day.
- Pathway: you choose how the card develops.
- Repeatable: you send several players through the same upgrade.
NOTE: upgrades stay on the card for good, but each evolution is only open for a limited time. So which ones can you start today?
Best free evolutions in FC 27 right now (Fall, 2026)
Free evolutions cover almost every position. Better still, all of the ones in the table below are repeatable, so you can run several cards through the same upgrade.
Keep in mind that every requirement is a cap – a max 74 OVR limit means a 75 card can’t enter. Pace caps work the same way. In addition, a role is a job on the pitch, like Wingback+. A three-star weak foot means the player uses his weaker foot quite well.

NOTE: We gathered these stats in October 2026. EA changes evolutions often, so check the timer in the game before you start.
You might notice that every evolution in the table is free and wingers don’t appear in that table. Their main evolution – Touchline Magic – will cost you coins.
Touchline Magic: the paid evolution for wingers
Touchline Magic costs 20,000 coins or 150 FC Points. In return, a winger gains up to 10 OVR, capped at 84.
For that price, a winger gets a big boost – your card will get faster, more agile, and calmer under pressure. It also learns two PlayStyles:
- Technical
- Quick Step
Finally, it gains a fourth skill move star, which means you can do more tricks with the ball.
Your card must meet these rules:
- It plays left wing or right wing.
- Its overall rating is 80 or lower.
- Its pace is 86 or lower.
- It doesn’t list a striker, central midfield, or attacking midfield position.
Keep in mind that the final rating stops at 84. So a weaker card gains more. In the trackers’ examples, a 72 card reaches 82 and a 79 card reaches 84.

Best evolved players in FC 27 right now (Fall, 2026)

As you can see, every card here reaches 85 OVR, so you can choose by position. Need a striker? Pick Shiogai. A defensive midfielder? Fernandes will do.
On top of that, you can build Khephren Thuram – another 85 OVR defensive midfielder – with just one evolution: Centre Stage. He’s got less pace than Fernandes, but he’s stronger in defense and physicality. So he’s your quick option.

Future Stars Academy: the free chain behind the top cards
Future Stars Academy is a chain of four free evolutions. You run the same card through all four, then choose how your player grows along the way – e.g., as an attacker, a playmaker, etc.
Start with Future Stars Academy I. Your card must meet these rules:
- It plays striker or attacking midfield
- Its overall rating is 80 or lower
- Its pace is 86 or lower
- Your player was born after October 9, 2003
As you can see, older players are ruled out – something to keep in mind before you start.
After that, each step asks for an exact rating:
- Step I: your card rises to 81.
- Step II: your 81 card rises to 82.
- Step III: your 82 card rises to 83 and gets a new PlayStyle.
- Step IV: your 83 card rises to 85.
NOTE: Steps II to IV also ask for the Future Stars Academy rarity, so you can’t join halfway with a card you already own. So which evolution should you start first?
Best evolution to start with, by position
Pick the evolution that fills your squad’s weakest position. On its best-evolutions list, FUT.GG Future Stars Academy I is ranked first. It scores each evolution by how much it improves cards, then subtracts points for cost and effort. Nine Duty comes second.
