Why Is ID Verification Needed on Eldorado?

When it comes to security online, there’s no such thing as too much protection. After all, given the vastness of the internet, no one wants their private information to pop up in some unsavory channels. On top of that, imagine if someone could not only see your personal details but use them for their own purposes - a scenario that’s not a rarity online.

That is why on Eldorado.gg we want to keep you safe and your privacy intact. And that might require some additional steps on your part. One of them is the verification procedure that will help secure your account.

 What Is ID Verification?

Simply put, the verification system allows us to know that you are who you say you are. Meaning, we want to ensure that it’s really you making the purchase and not someone who borrows your personal information for their purposes. While the scenario might sound outlandish, it’s better to be safe than sorry when it comes to online purchases.

Essentially, when completing a transaction on Eldorado.gg, you might be asked to verify your identity. Usually, it’s done by taking a photo of your government-issued ID, so our customer support can match your name to the credit card you provided. This will secure your details and ensure that no one is using your credit or debit card without your knowledge.

And don’t worry; we won’t misuse your data ourselves. According to our policy, we keep your information on file for about 90 days, just enough to successfully confirm your identity. After that, the data you provided will be deleted. The process is automated, so you don’t have to fear someone forgetting to complete the procedure.

Alternatively, if you want to bypass the whole verification process, you can complete your transactions with cryptocurrency. That way, you will remain completely anonymous, but the transaction will also stay secure since cryptocurrencies have inherent securities built into them.

Types of Verification

There are three types of verifications. The first one is when we ask you to provide a photo of your ID. It’s the most straightforward one, and all you need is a good-resolution picture of your valid government-issued document (such as a driver’s license, passport, or any other official document). Please make sure the document is not expired and that nothing obstructs your face (for easy recognition).

Another form of verification is similar to the first, but this time, we would ask you to take a picture of yourself holding the ID. This would help us better verify your identity and ensure no one is using your document to bypass our protocols. However, we won’t accept images that were clearly meant for other websites; for example, a selfie featuring you and your ID, but with an additional piece of paper close by that states ‘Google’ because the image may have previously leaked to the internet and is now being reused.

Lastly, you might need to verify your credit card. You can do that by taking a picture with certain card details clearly visible, such as the cardholder's name, the bank that issued the card, whether the card is Visa or Mastercard, and its date of validity. You can block out the card number but keep the last 4 digits visible for verification purposes.

Why Is ID Verification Required?

You might wonder why verification is needed in the first place. Well, simply put, there are many different ways that your information could be leaked. This information can include not only your name or address but also your credit card numbers. Someone could use your card’s information to make purchases online since, in most cases, these transactions are not protected by a PIN (like they would in a store or even at an ATM). Therefore, if fraudsters gain access to your credit card data, they can freely manipulate it, and in many cases, there’s little protection for you after the fact.

So, in order to ensure that you wouldn’t have to go through a lengthy process of reclaiming any money that the scammer may have taken, we implemented a verification process that essentially ties your account to your card and name. And since the same policy is for everyone, you can be sure that the buyers on Eldorado.gg are verified, too, further decreasing the likelihood of scams.

Steps to Verify

We’ve overviewed what verification is and how it works, and now it’s time to briefly go over the broad steps.

  1. You will be informed of the type of verification you need to complete. Then, take a clearly visible picture with your ID or credit card (depending on the situation).

  2. For additional security, please either have Eldorado’s name written on a piece of paper nearby in the photo or have our website in the background.

  3. Ensure that crucial information such as your name or document’s expiration date is clearly visible. When verifying a card, you have to provide the last 4 digits of your card’s number.

  4. Make sure to use valid government-issued documents or valid credit cards. The provided information will be used for verification purposes only and later deleted.
